PORTLAND, Maine - Glenn Close’s signature characters have boiled a bunny, plotted the skinning of Dalmatian puppies and, more recently, helped arrange the killing of a pet dog to leverage a balky witness.

Postmaster Thomas Fitzgerald called for the cooperation of dog owners in keeping their pets restrained during mail delivery times.

Canis lupus familiaris, the domestic dog, has been a companion to humans for, by some estimates, over 10,000 years. The fit between human and dog is natural as both are considered social or pack animals. Thus, we humans often make up the pack that our furry friends depend on for their needs.
