The debate has since raged about whether people should be allowed to keep such dangerous pets, and if those who do so should be required to undergo training in handling such a pet. …

In a warehouse behind the Mendocino Farm Supply, among bags of feed and boxes of horseshoes, close to a dozen young dog owners are learning how to better care for and control the animals they love.

Man’s best friend is living up to that statement. Search and rescue dogs are becoming important partners for police and emergency workers. There is a training for these pooches coming up.
